AGS data: site investigation data received by BGS from 3rd party organisations in AGS file format
Site investigation and geotechnical data received by BGS from third party organisations in AGS file format. When received by BGS, the AGS data are validated against predefined rules, processed and stored in the BGS AGS agnostic store. The data are delivered as received. No interpretative values or observations are added to the data by BGS. A layer showing the locations of boreholes with open data deposited with BGS via the AGS process is available on the GeoIndex. Useful for
- Use cases llm-inferred
- Desk study: retrieve nearby historic borehole and ground investigation records for a preliminary ground model · Foundation and earthworks design: review existing geotechnical test data from AGS deposits near a site · Geoenvironmental assessment: locate open-data boreholes on the GeoIndex to scope intrusive investigation
- Audience llm-inferred
- geotechnical engineers · engineering geologists · geoenvironmental consultants · civils engineers · BIM/civils engineers
Limitations
- Constraints docs-verified
- Data are delivered as received; BGS adds no interpretation or observations, so quality checking is the user's responsibility · Copyright and reuse restrictions apply (NERC/BGS) · No warranty as to quality or accuracy of the information supplied · GeoIndex borehole layer covers only boreholes with open data deposited via the AGS process · Requires AGS-aware tooling to parse the file format · No spatial resolution or time span stated for the data
