BGS Geosure Insurance Lenders Product v8 2025.3

The GeoSure Insurance and Lenders Product (GILP) provides the potential insurance risk due to natural ground movement. It incorporates the combined effects of the 6 GeoSure hazards on (low-rise) buildings: landslides, shrink-swell clays, soluble rocks, running sands, compressible ground, and collapsible deposits. These hazards are evaluated using a series of processes including statistical analyses and expert elicitation techniques to create a derived product that can be used for insurance purpo

Useful for

Use cases llm-inferred
Screening ground-movement insurance and lending risk for low-rise buildings at postcode level in due diligence · Preliminary shrink-swell clay and compressible ground screening in early-stage site appraisal · Regional geohazard constraints layers for desk studies and GIS mapping of soluble rocks and running sands
Audience llm-inferred
geotechnical engineers · engineering geologists · GIS analysts · planners · insurance and lending risk analysts

Limitations

Constraints llm-inferred
Produced for 1:50 000 scale with 50 m ground resolution, so not suited to site-specific assessment · Covers Great Britain only, excluding the Isle of Man; Northern Ireland is not mentioned · Copyright restricted, and reproduction or transmission needs BGS permission · Dataset licence not set on the DOCS page · GIS formats are supplied on request, not as a stated direct download · BGS gives no warranty on quality or accuracy and use is at the customer's own risk · Postcode linkage depends on the Code-Point release (2025.3) and is updated biannually
