CanElevation - Canada Digital Elevation Models

The Canadian DEM represents the current coverage of elevation data available. This dataset includes a Digital Terrain Model (DTM), a Digital Surface Model (DSM) and other derived products. This dataset includes a 1m, 2m and 30m DEM. The 1m and 2 m products are a combination of DEM data generated from airborne LiDAR and optical digital images. The 30 m DEM integrates data from the Copernicus DEM acquired during the TanDEM-X Mission, with the DEM data derived from airborne lidar and provides a com

Useful for

Use cases llm-inferred
Flood risk and drainage: terrain input for overland flow paths and catchment delineation from the 1 m or 2 m DEM · FRA: topographic context and floodplain mapping from the 30 m DEM where finer data is unavailable · Civils earthworks: existing-ground levels and cut/fill baselines from the DTM and DSM
Audience llm-inferred
flood consultants · drainage engineers · hydrologists · civils engineers · GIS analysts

Limitations

Constraints llm-inferred
Coverage stated as complete only for Canada; outside Canada is not covered · 1 m and 2 m products combine LiDAR with optical imagery, so quality may vary by source · No fixed update schedule; updates depend on new DEM models becoming available · Northern Canada 1 m data is only listed as optical-stereo derived (HRDEM ArcticDEM), not LiDAR
