Catchment Data Explorer: Water Body Status Objectives

Water body status objectives describe the long term planned status of a water body that must be achieved or maintained. There are two different status objectives for each water body. For surface waters these are ecological status or potential objective and chemical status objective; for groundwater these are quantitative status objective and chemical status objectives. The water body objectives are derived from the objectives for the relevant individual elements within the water body. Water body

Useful for

Use cases llm-inferred
Water Framework Directive status baseline for a site or catchment in a flood risk or drainage assessment · Checking planned good-status target dates when screening a development's impact on a water body · Groundwater quantitative objectives for abstraction or dewatering risk screening · Environmental constraints input when scoping a drainage outfall or discharge consent
Audience llm-inferred
environmental consultants · hydrologists · water quality specialists · planners · drainage engineers

Limitations

Constraints docs-verified
Objectives are predictions of future status, not current classification · Target dates depend on whether the measures needed are affordable and on recovery time · Objectives are derived from individual element objectives within each water body · No API or MCP tool listed (ENTRY tools empty); access is via the CSV download and Catchment Data Explorer
