Copernicus DEM GLO-30 (2024_1): Global 30m Digital Elevation Model

The Copernicus DEM is a Digital Surface Model (DSM) which represents the surface of the Earth including buildings, infrastructure and vegetation. This DEM is derived from an edited DSM named WorldDEM™, i.e., flattening of water bodies and consistent flow of rivers has been included. Editing of shore- and coastlines, special features such as airports and implausible terrain structures has also been applied. The WorldDEM product is based on the radar satellite data acquired during the TanDEM

Useful for

Use cases llm-inferred
Catchment and flow-path delineation for FRA baseline screening · Slope and aspect analysis for earthworks and geotechnical screening · Terrain inputs for preliminary drainage strategy levels and gradients
Audience llm-inferred
flood consultants · drainage engineers · hydrologists · GIS analysts · civils engineers · geotechnical engineers

Limitations

Constraints llm-inferred
DSM includes buildings and vegetation, so it is not a bare-earth DTM for hydraulic modelling without further processing · Heights are referenced to EGM2008 (EPSG:3855); 0 elevation does not imply mean sea level · Dataset is an image collection built from multiple source resolutions; slope needs reprojection (see the docs' code example) · Docs state Earth Engine is free for research, education and nonprofit use; commercial consultancy use terms are not stated · Attribution notice required when distributing or adapting the data · Licence conflict: DOCS describe a free licence, but ENTRY metadata lists 'proprietary'
