Digital Geological Map Data of Great Britain - 50k (DiGMapGB-50) version 7
Data identifying landscape areas (shown as polygons) attributed with geological names. The scale of the data is 1:50 000 scale. Onshore coverage is provided for all of England, Wales, Scotland and the Isle of Man. Data are supplied as five themes: bedrock, superficial deposits, mass movement, artificial ground and linear features. Bedrock geology describes the main mass of solid rocks forming the earth's crust. Bedrock is present everywhere, whether exposed at surface in outcrops or concealed be

Useful for
- Use cases llm-inferred
- Desk study ground model: bedrock and superficial deposit context for site investigation planning · Slope stability screening: flag mapped landslips and foundered ground on a development site · Made ground screening: identify artificial ground areas for brownfield or contaminated land assessment · Hydrogeology and drainage conceptual models: superficial deposit and bedrock mapping at catchment scale
- Audience llm-inferred
- geotechnical engineers · civils engineers · hydrologists · environmental consultants · planners · GIS analysts
Limitations
- Constraints docs-verified
- Mass movement data may be incomplete: historically BGS has not always recorded mass movement events · Artificial ground data is a snapshot in time and may become dated rapidly as land use changes · Supplied with no warranty as to quality, accuracy or suitability for any use; use is at the customer's own risk · Reproduction or transmission of the material requires prior permission of the copyright holder
