England 1m Composite DTM/DSM (Environment Agency)

The LIDAR Composite DTM/DSM is a raster terrain model covering ~99% of England at 1m spatial resolution, produced by the UK Environment Agency in 2022. The model contains 3 bands of terrain data: a Digital Terrain Model (DTM), a first return Digital Surface Model (DSM), and a last return DSM. The DTM is produced from the last or only laser pulse returned to the sensor. Surface objects are removed from the DSM, using bespoke algorithms and manual editing of the data, to produce a terrain model of

Useful for

Use cases llm-inferred
FRA: terrain input for overland flow path and flood extent analysis across a site or catchment · Drainage strategy: DTM-based surface routing and catchment delineation for runoff assessment · Civils: cut/fill and earthworks baseline using DTM versus first return DSM for surface objects
Audience llm-inferred
flood consultants · drainage engineers · hydrologists · GIS analysts · civils engineers

Limitations

Constraints llm-inferred
Covers ~99% of England only, not the whole country · Composite of surveys from 2000 to 2022, so the date of survey varies by location · First return DSM coverage does not match last return DSM coverage · Google Earth Engine is free for research, education and nonprofit use; commercial use may need a paid Earth Engine arrangement · Entry metadata lists licence as 'proprietary', which differs from the open-style attribution terms in the docs · No update cadence is stated, and the composite reflects 2022 production
