ERA5 Hourly - ECMWF Climate Reanalysis

ERA5 is the fifth generation ECMWF atmospheric reanalysis of the global climate. It is produced by the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) at ECMWF. Reanalysis combines model data with observations from across the world into a globally complete and consistent dataset using the laws of physics. ERA5 provides hourly estimates for a large number of atmospheric, ocean-wave and land-surface quantities. The data cover the Earth on a roughly 31 km grid and resolve the atmosphere using 137 levels fr

Useful for

Use cases llm-inferred
Long-term (1940-present) hourly temperature and humidity context for flood or drainage climate-change narratives · Hourly 10m and 100m wind inputs for site exposure or wind screening where no local station exists · Sea surface temperature and ocean-wave context for coastal scheme assessments
Audience llm-inferred
hydrologists · flood risk consultants · drainage engineers · climate risk consultants · GIS analysts

Limitations

Constraints docs-verified
Global reanalysis at ~31 km grid; not suited to site-scale or local detail without downscaling · Model grid-box averages differ from point observations, so local comparisons need caution · Licence recorded as proprietary; check terms before commercial use · Requires Google Earth Engine access (inferred; not stated in DOCS) · DOCS text is truncated, so the full band list and any further limitations are not verified
