ERA5 - PDS
ERA5 is the fifth generation ECMWF atmospheric reanalysis of the global climate covering the period from January 1950 to present. ERA5 is produced by the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) at ECMWF. Reanalysis combines model data with observations from across the world into a globally complete and consistent dataset using the laws of physics. This principle, called data assimilation, is based on the method used by numerical weather prediction centres, where every so many hours (12 hours at

What's in it
- Data offered llm-inferred
- global atmospheric reanalysis (ERA5) · climate reanalysis covering January 1950 to present
- Coverage llm-inferred
- Global · January 1950 to present
- Access llm-inferred
- No auth listed in metadata; licence recorded as 'other' (terms not specified)
Useful for
- Use cases llm-inferred
- Long-term rainfall and temperature context for flood frequency analysis where local records are short · Climate baseline meteorological inputs for drainage strategy and climate change allowance studies · Meteorological forcing for catchment hydrological models where no local station data exists
- Audience llm-inferred
- hydrologists · flood consultants · drainage engineers · climate resilience consultants
Limitations
- Constraints llm-inferred
- No DOCS retrieved, so no metadata has been verified against the provider documentation · Description is truncated in the entry, so resolution and data details are incomplete · Reanalysis model output, not direct observations · Licence recorded only as 'other'; terms need checking before use · Global product, so local UK detail depends on resolution, which is not stated
