Flood Map for Planning - Flood Zones plus Climate Change

The Flood Map for Planning Service includes several layers of information. This includes the Flood Zones plus climate change data which shows how the combined extent of Flood Zones 2 and 3 could increase with climate change over the next century, ignoring the benefits of any existing flood defences. We have assumed no changes to flood defences or land-use that could occur in future. The effects of climate change on flood risk we may see in the future could be different to those currently conside

Useful for

Use cases llm-inferred
Screening a development site for flood risk to decide whether a site-specific flood risk assessment is needed · Applying the sequential test in a planning application or local plan allocation · Providing climate-change flood extent inputs to a strategic flood risk assessment (SFRA)
Audience llm-inferred
flood risk consultants · planners · drainage engineers · GIS analysts

Limitations

Constraints docs-verified
Indicative only; not suitable for showing whether an individual property is at risk of flooding · Ignores the benefits of existing flood defences and assumes no future changes to defences or land use · Uses Central climate change allowance for river flooding and Upper End allowance for sea flooding (2080s and cumulative sea level rise to 2125) · When downloading an area of interest, all intersecting polygons are supplied, which may extend beyond the drawn area
