MODIS Terra Snow Cover Daily Global 500m
The MODIS Terra MOD10A1 Version 6.1 product provides a global Level-3 daily composite of snow cover and albedo derived from the MODIS/Terra Snow Cover 5-Min L2 Swath 500 m dataset. The data are generated as daily composites and distributed in 10° × 10° tiles projected to a 500 m sinusoidal grid. Each tile contains information on snow cover extent and surface albedo derived from MODIS Terra observations, enabling consistent global monitoring of snow conditions. Useful for
- Use cases llm-inferred
- Snow cover history for snowmelt context in upland flood risk assessments · Daily snow cover and albedo time series for hydrological model calibration or validation in snow-affected catchments · Seasonal snow cover baseline for environmental or ecological assessments of upland sites
- Audience llm-inferred
- hydrologists · flood consultants · environmental consultants · GIS analysts
Limitations
- Constraints llm-inferred
- 500 m resolution is coarse for small UK sites · Raw data is delivered as 10°×10° HDF tiles that need processing before use · QA and algorithm-flag bands must be used to filter observations · Licence is 'other' and needs review against LP DAAC policies before commercial use · Access needs CDSE OIDC authentication or S3 credentials; CREODIAS S3 is requester-pays · No MCP tools are provided
