NASA GRACE-FO Project

This data set is produced by the Center for Space Research (CSR) GRACE-FO (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment Follow-On) program and derives the terrestrial water storage anomaly given as equivalent water thickness. These monthly grids are derived from GRACE-FO time-variable gravity observations during the specified timespan, and relative to the specified time-mean reference period. This quantity represents the total terrestrial water storage anomalies from soil moisture, snow, surface wate

What's in it

Data offered docs-verified
terrestrial water storage anomaly (equivalent water thickness, monthly grids) · ocean bottom pressure anomaly (equivalent water thickness, monthly grids) · monthly geopotential spherical harmonic coefficients (JPL, CSR, GFZ Level-2) · GRACE-FO Level-1A/1B telemetry and engineering data (expert use) · hourly Arctic ocean bottom pressure at the North Pole (ABPR-FO, Aug 2022 to Aug 2023)
Coverage docs-verified

Useful for

Use cases llm-inferred
Regional terrestrial water storage trend context for groundwater and drought assessments · Catchment-scale storage anomaly check alongside gauge and rainfall records · Long-term water storage baseline for water resources strategy inputs
Audience llm-inferred
hydrologists · water resources engineers · GIS analysts · environmental consultants

Limitations

Constraints docs-verified
ACX2 data not available for 03/2023-06/2023, so the processing version varies over time · Post-processing filters applied to reduce correlated errors, which limits spatial detail · Level-1A, Level-1B and Level-2 products are marked for expert use only · ABPR-FO covers only Aug 2022 to Aug 2023 · Anomalies are relative to a time-mean reference period, so absolute storage is not provided
