National (Great Britain) Recharge Model climate change runs - 11 regional climate models

The data are the gridded recharge values obtained from the BGS distributed recharge model (ZOODRM) driven by 11 Ensembles of the HaDCM3 Regional Climate Model (RCM) taken from the Future Flow and Groundwater Level data set (http://www.ceh.ac.uk/our-science/projects/future-flows-and-groundwater-levels). The model covers the mainland areas of England, Scotland and Wales. The 11 ensembles are run from January 1950 to December 2099. The dataset themselves are the gridded (2 km by 2 km) outputs from

What's in it

Data offered docs-verified
gridded recharge (soil drainage) values at 2 km by 2 km, from the BGS ZOODRM model driven by 11 HadCM3 RCM ensembles · recharge outputs averaged over four time horizons (historical, 20s, 50s, 80s) for each of the 11 ensembles
Coverage docs-verified
Mainland England, Scotland and Wales · January 1950 to December 2099 (model run period)
Resolution docs-verified
2 km by 2 km grid
Update frequency docs-verified

Useful for

Use cases llm-inferred
Compare historical and future (20s, 50s, 80s) potential recharge for a mainland GB catchment in a groundwater resource or water balance assessment · Provide climate-change recharge sensitivity inputs for groundwater flood risk or aquifer recharge studies · Sense-check recharge assumptions in groundwater models against an ensemble range of climate scenarios
Audience llm-inferred
hydrogeologists · hydrologists · water resources engineers · flood risk consultants · environmental consultants

Limitations

Constraints llm-inferred
Model-based gridded outputs, not observed recharge; quality depends on the BGS ZOODRM model and HadCM3 RCM driving data · Mainland England, Scotland and Wales only; no coverage of Northern Ireland or offshore islands stated · Outputs are averaged over four time horizons, so no continuous annual or monthly series is provided · Dataset reference date is 2017-03-31, so the underlying model runs may be dated · Access restricted by NERC/BGS copyright; redistribution needs permission · Licence field is not set on the page, so reuse terms need confirming with BGS
