New Zealand Coastal Elevation
The New Zealand Coastal Elevation dataset consists of New Zealand's publicly owned coastal digital elevation models, which are freely available to use under an open licence. The data consists of bare earth (DEM) data that traverses the coastal zone, including the seabed down to approximately 25m in depth. Data is provided as nationally consistent 1m resolution tiles derived from LiDAR surveys. All of the coastal elevation files are [Cloud Optimised GeoTIFFs](https://www.cogeo.org/) using LERC co

Useful for
- Use cases llm-inferred
- Coastal flood and inundation modelling: bare-earth terrain input for tidal and storm surge models · Coastal scheme and outfall design: seabed-to-shore DEM for sea wall or outfall levels · Coastal erosion baseline: 1m terrain change analysis between survey epochs
- Audience llm-inferred
- hydrologists · flood consultants · coastal engineers · GIS analysts
Limitations
- Constraints llm-inferred
- New Zealand only; not applicable to UK projects · Coastal zone only, not inland terrain · Time span of surveys not stated; coverage varies by region and survey · Seabed data only to approximately 25m depth · Requires GeoTIFF/LERC-capable GIS tools
