Permeability Dataset for Great Britain (Bedrock)

The data comprises a GIS layer representing the permeability of bedrock for Great Britain The permeability data has been derived from DiGMap-GB (Digital Geological Map Data of Great Britain), and therefore reflects the scale of DiGMap-GB. For the majority of the Great Britain, the scale is 1:50,000, however in areas where the geology is not mapped to this scale, 1:250,000 data are. The data is updated annually, or after a major new release of DiGMap-GB. The permeability data describes the fresh

Useful for

Use cases llm-inferred
Bedrock permeability screening for SuDS infiltration feasibility and drainage strategy · Hydrogeological context for flood risk assessment (groundwater flooding and baseflow screening) · Desk-study geology layer for contaminated land and geotechnical site investigation scoping
Audience llm-inferred
hydrogeologists · drainage engineers · flood consultants · geotechnical engineers · GIS analysts

Limitations

Constraints llm-inferred
Permeability indices ignore the thickness of the unsaturated and saturated parts of each unit · Mapping scale varies: 1:250,000 applies where geology is not mapped at 1:50,000 · Best viewed in a desktop GIS; vector data only, no raster product listed · Harvested extent metadata (51.64 to 53.49 N, -2.00 to 1.84 E) is narrower than the stated Great Britain coverage; check the data before relying on full GB coverage · Commercial use requires a licence and reproduction requires NERC/BGS permission; no licence terms or price are stated in DOCS · BGS gives no warranty on accuracy or suitability for any use, and use is at the customer's own risk
