Reference Elevation Model of Antarctica (REMA)

The Reference Elevation Model of Antarctica - 2m GSD Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) and mosaics from 2009 to the present. The REMA project seeks to fill the need for high-resolution time-series elevation data in the Antarctic. The time-dependent nature of the strip DEM files allows users to perform change detection analysis and to compare observations of topography data acquired in different seasons or years. The mosaic DEM tiles are assembled from multiple strip DEMs with the intention of prov

Useful for

Use cases llm-inferred
Change detection of Antarctic ice-surface elevation between strip DEMs from different seasons or years · Multi-year elevation comparison for polar infrastructure or research-site terrain baselines · Reference terrain input for GIS-based terrain analysis of Antarctic study areas
Audience llm-inferred
GIS analysts · remote sensing specialists · glaciologists and polar researchers

Limitations

Constraints llm-inferred
Coverage is Antarctic only, so it has no relevance to UK projects; the ENTRY 'regions: Global' field is inconsistent with the docs · Strip DEMs are updated only twice yearly · Source imagery is from the Maxar commercial constellation, so reuse terms beyond CC BY 4.0 attribution are not covered here · Dataset is file-based (S3/STAC), not an MCP server or API tool
