Temperature and precipitation gridded data for global and regional domains derived from in-situ and satellite observations

This dataset provides high-resolution gridded temperature and precipitation observations from a selection of sources. Additionally the dataset contains daily global average near-surface temperature anomalies. All fields are defined on either daily or monthly frequency. The datasets are regularly updated to incorporate recent observations. The included data sources are commonly known as GISTEMP, Berkeley Earth, CPC and CPC-CONUS, CHIRPS, IMERG, CMORPH, GPCC and CRU, where the abbreviations are ex

What's in it

Data offered docs-verified
gridded temperature · gridded precipitation · daily global average near-surface temperature anomaly
Coverage docs-verified
Depends on the model: global, quasi-global, Africa and contiguous United States (CONUS)
Resolution docs-verified
Spatial, depends on model: 0.1 x 0.1, 0.25 x 0.25, 0.2 x 0.2, 0.5 x 0.5, 1 x 1, 2.5 x 2.5 degrees, or horizontal average. Temporal: monthly and daily.
Update frequency docs-verified
No expected updates (per catalogue table). Conflicts with the description, which says the datasets are regularly updated.
Formats docs-verified
NetCDF-4
Access docs-verified
Licence: In-situ product collective licence (licence field in catalogue is 'other'). Portal shows Login/Register; the docs do not state whether an API key is needed.

Useful for

Use cases llm-inferred
Long-term precipitation and temperature baseline for an overseas project site where UK gauge data is unavailable · Extreme rainfall and temperature event analysis for climate context in drainage or flood risk studies · Baseline dataset for comparing or evaluating climate model outputs (CMIP5/CMIP6) in climate risk assessments
Audience llm-inferred
hydrologists · climate scientists · water resources engineers · drainage engineers · environmental consultants

Limitations

Constraints llm-inferred
Resolution is 0.1 to 2.5 degrees, which is coarse for site-scale UK civils or drainage design · Coverage depends on the underlying model; CHIRPS is Africa-focused and CPC-CONUS is limited to the contiguous US · Update frequency is contradictory: the table says 'No expected updates' but the description says regularly updated · Licence is a collective in-situ licence; terms should be checked before reuse · Portal shows Login/Register, so access may require an account
