USGS 3DEP 10m National Map Seamless (1/3 Arc-Second)
This is the seamless 3DEP DEM dataset for the U.S. with full coverage of the 48 conterminous states, Hawaii, and U.S. territories. Alaska coverage is partially available now and is being expanded to statewide coverage as part of the Alaska Mapping Initiative. Ground spacing is approximately 10 meters north/south, but variable east/west due to convergence of meridians with latitude. The 1m dataset is ingested as [USGS_3DEP_1m](USGS_3DEP_1m). What's in it
- Data offered docs-verified
- DEM elevation (elevation band, metres) · seamless 1/3 arc-second DEM, approx. 10 m
- Coverage docs-verified
- Contiguous U.S., Hawaii and U.S. territories; Alaska partial and expanding · 1924-01-01 to 2022-05-04 (Earth Engine dataset availability)
- Resolution docs-verified
- Pixel size 10.2 m (approx. 10 m north/south; east/west spacing varies with latitude)
- Formats docs-verified
- Google Earth Engine ImageCollection
- Access docs-verified
- Requires Google Earth Engine access (registration needed). Earth Engine is free for research, education and nonprofit use; business use is listed as a separate category. Underlying USGS data is generally public domain.
Useful for
- Use cases llm-inferred
- Catchment delineation and slope analysis for US flood risk assessments where no local DEM exists · Overland flow routing for US drainage strategy screening at 10 m resolution · Preliminary site grading and cut-fill volume estimates for US civils schemes
- Audience llm-inferred
- hydrologists · flood consultants · drainage engineers · civils engineers · GIS analysts
Limitations
- Constraints llm-inferred
- US coverage only; no UK data · Alaska coverage is partial and still being expanded · Dataset availability ends 2022-05-04 per the Earth Engine record · Requires Earth Engine access; business use terms are not detailed in the docs · 10 m grid, not the 1 m product (USGS_3DEP_1m) · East/west ground spacing varies with latitude · ENTRY licence is 'proprietary', which conflicts with the docs' public-domain statement; verify before relying on either
