Water Cover Duration 2016-present (raster 10 m), Europe, annually

The Water Cover Duration (WCD) product is generated once a year. It provides an estimate of the number of days on which water covers the land at a European scale during the hydrological year. The hydrological year begins on 1 September. The product is derived from Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 data, as well as Sentinel-2 Water and Ice Cover (WIC S2) product. It has a spatial resolution of 10 m x 10 m.

Useful for

Use cases llm-inferred
Multi-year surface-water and flood-plain inundation duration baseline for FRA screening · Persistent water-body and wetland extent mapping for BNG habitat baselines · Hydrological-year water-presence screening for drainage outfall or abstraction siting
Audience llm-inferred
flood consultants · hydrologists · GIS analysts · ecologists · drainage engineers

Limitations

Constraints llm-inferred
Annual product only; no sub-annual water-presence timing · Cloud and cloud-shadow pixels (value 65485) and sea (65533) are classified separately and must be masked · Quality layer grades pixels from high to minimal quality; low and minimal-quality pixels need caution · Licence is 'other', so check CLMS terms before redistribution · CREODIAS S3 mirror is requester-pays
