Countryside Survey 2007
A range of data has been gathered under the Countryside Survey project including habitat areas, vegetation species, soil data, linear feature data and freshwater habitats. Data in this series were gathered in the 2007 survey in Great Britain. Countryside Survey is a unique study or 'audit' of the natural resources of the UK's countryside. The countryside is sampled and surveyed using rigorous scientific methods, allowing us to compare new results with those from previous surveys. In this way we

Useful for
- Use cases llm-inferred
- Habitat and vegetation baseline context for ecological surveys, using Broad Habitat areas and vegetation plot data · Topsoil pH, carbon, nitrogen and metals baselines for land-quality screening of Great Britain sites · Freshwater habitat baselines from River Habitat Survey and headwater stream chemistry for river restoration or WFD-related assessments · Landscape linear feature length baselines (hedgerows, walls, etc.) for landscape and biodiversity assessments
- Audience llm-inferred
- ecologists · soil scientists · hydrologists · GIS analysts · environmental planners · landscape consultants
Limitations
- Constraints llm-inferred
- 2007 snapshot; the docs list no later survey round in this series · Sample-based (1 km squares), not full-coverage mapping · Several topsoil variables are model estimates (generalized additive model), not direct measurements · Non-Open Government Licence: check terms before reuse in client deliverables · Docs cover Great Britain only; catalogue region says United Kingdom, so Northern Ireland coverage is unconfirmed
