Critical loads of acidity and nutrient nitrogen for UK habitats

The data provide critical loads of acidity, and of nutrient nitrogen for the distributions of UK habitats sensitive to acidification and/or eutrophication. Critical loads have been calculated and applied to UK natural and semi-natural habitats sensitive to acidification and/or eutrophication (excess nitrogen as a nutrient). Critical loads data are available for these habitat types at 1x1 km resolution for the UK. In addition, acidity critical loads are available for 1752 selected freshwater site

Useful for

Use cases llm-inferred
Habitat sensitivity screening for acid and nitrogen deposition in ecological baseline or HRA screening · Freshwater acidity baseline using FAB-derived critical loads for surface waters in acid-sensitive regions · Nitrogen and acid deposition sensitivity context for planning applications affecting semi-natural habitats
Audience llm-inferred
ecologists · environmental consultants · planners · GIS analysts · hydrologists

Limitations

Constraints llm-inferred
Data dated: acidity critical loads last revised 2004, nutrient nitrogen 2011 · Habitat maps cover only areas where critical loads can be calculated and may differ from other national habitat maps · Habitat distributions based on CEH Land Cover Map 2000 plus ancillary data · Freshwater acidity critical loads cover only 1752 selected sites, not all UK surface waters · Tabular CSV (text) rather than a spatial file; grid referenced to OSGB 1936 / British National Grid · Scripted bulk download requires a personal access token
