EuroFlood Index - Satellite-Derived Flood Depth Maps for Europe
A queryable spatial index over the JRC/Copernicus CEMS-EFAS Satellite-Derived Flood Depth Maps (Europe, 2015–2025): one Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFF maps each ~90 m pixel to the historic flood events that touched it, plus a Parquet dictionary and per-event metadata; so tools can find which floods hit a location without downloading the depth rasters. Built with the euroflood Python library. Source © JRC/Copernicus EMS, licensed CC-BY-4.0.

Useful for
- Use cases llm-inferred
- FRA screening: list historic flood events that touched a site before downloading any depth rasters · Flood-history context for a drainage or civils scheme, pulling only the depth GeoTIFFs for events that hit the site · Floodplain ecology baseline: inundation history for wetland or habitat assessment at a Europe site
- Audience llm-inferred
- flood consultants · hydrologists · GIS analysts · planners
Limitations
- Constraints llm-inferred
- Historic events only (2015–2025); not a forward-looking hazard or return-period product · Stated coverage is 'Europe'; UK coverage is not explicitly confirmed in the docs · ~90 m pixels are unsuitable for property-scale detail · Direct use needs GDAL/rasterio (or similar) for COG access; the easiest route is the Python euroflood library · Maintained through a single GitHub repository, so long-term maintenance is not guaranteed
