Peak flow and probability of exceedance data for Grid-to-Grid modelled widespread flooding events across mainland GB from 1980-2010 and 2050-2080
This dataset is a set of 24 gridded netcdf files, each including data describing a total of 14,400 widespread flooding events across mainland GB, with event selection based on a peaks-over-threshold approach. The data describes peak river flow in m3/s and the associated annual probability of exceedance for each 1km grid-square on the GB river network. The data is extracted from daily time series data from the Grid-to-Grid model, using UKCP18 12km regional projections from 12 members of a perturb

Useful for
- Use cases llm-inferred
- FRA climate-change sensitivity: compare 1980-2010 and 2050-2080 peak flows for a site's 1 km grid cell · Widespread flood event frequency screening for catastrophe or portfolio risk analysis · Annual exceedance probability estimate of peak flow for an ungauged 1 km cell on the GB river network
- Audience llm-inferred
- flood consultants · hydrologists · catastrophe modellers · climate adaptation planners
Limitations
- Constraints llm-inferred
- Format conflict: the description says 24 NetCDF files, while the metadata lists CSV and Shapefile; confirm before building a pipeline · Modelled data only (Grid-to-Grid driven by UKCP18 12 km projections, 12-member perturbed parameter ensemble), not observed gauge records · Only widespread events are included (daily flow above the 99.5th percentile over at least 20 km²), so local flash flooding is excluded · Multi-day events are summarised as cell-wise flow maxima, so hydrograph shape and volume are lost · Time periods use 360-day years, and only two 30-year windows are provided rather than a continuous series · Static dataset published 2022-06-27 with no stated update schedule · Open Government Licence requires citation of the dataset in any published work · No API or tool interface (tools list is empty)
