Topsoil particle size distribution, electrical conductivity, calcite and total carbon from the Countryside Survey of Great Britain for 2018-2023, and aggregate
This dataset contains information on the soil particle size distribution, electrical conductivity, total carbon, and inorganic carbon in the form of CaCO3 for the topsoil (0-15cm) from the Countryside Survey monitoring programme spanning the years 2018 to 2023. This period includes the five years, along with the pilot year, required to finalize the sampling across the geography of Great Britain. Additionally, it includes the aggregate size distribution and stability for the CS2019. UKCEH Country

Useful for
- Use cases llm-inferred
- Soil texture baseline for geotechnical or contaminated land desk studies using topsoil particle size distribution · Infiltration and SuDS screening inputs from topsoil particle size distribution across GB sites · Soil condition baseline for ecological or biodiversity net gain assessments using electrical conductivity and total carbon
- Audience llm-inferred
- geotechnical engineers · drainage engineers · hydrologists · ecologists · GIS analysts · planners
Limitations
- Constraints llm-inferred
- Sampled points, not a continuous map; only 500 1 km squares are sampled, so most locations are unsampled · Topsoil only (0-15 cm); no subsoil data · Samples were collected April to September across 2018-2023 rather than in one snapshot · CS2019 aggregate information covers 2019 only · Spatial representation is tabular (text) in OSGB 1936 / British National Grid; locations must be joined from the accompanying data · Docs describe the area as both Great Britain and the United Kingdom, so the exact extent should be checked · Study area field in the metadata is blank · Download-based dataset; no API is described in the docs
