Topsoil physico-chemical properties from the UKCEH Countryside Survey, Great Britain, 2024
This dataset consists of measures of topsoil (0-15 cm) physico-chemical properties from soils sampled from 105 x 1-km squares across Great Britain in 2024 as part of a rolling soil and vegetation monitoring program of 500 1-km squares repeated every 5 years, where 2024 is the first year of a new monitoring cycle. The properties included are: pH, soil organic matter (loss on ignition, LOI), derived carbon concentration and carbon stock (soil organic carbon, SOC), soil group, soil bulk density of

Useful for
- Use cases llm-inferred
- Regional topsoil organic carbon and bulk density benchmarks for soil carbon stock assessments · Background topsoil pH and nitrogen/Olsen-P comparison for land-quality or ecological baseline reports · Soil bulk density and moisture context for desk-based runoff or infiltration assumptions in drainage strategies
- Audience llm-inferred
- ecologists · soil scientists · geotechnical engineers · environmental consultants · GIS analysts
Limitations
- Constraints llm-inferred
- Sample of 105 squares in 2024, not the full 500-square monitoring network · Topsoil 0-15 cm only; no subsoil data · Point samples in tabular form; no gridded or interpolated surfaces · Vegetation data are a separate record and must be linked by the user
