UK Environmental Change Network (ECN) stream water chemistry data: 1992-2015

Stream water chemistry data from the UK Environmental Change Network (ECN) terrestrial sites. Variables measured include pH, conductivity, alkalinity, aluminium, calcium, chloride, ammonium, nitrate nitrogen, phosphate phosphorous, potassium, sulphate sulphur, sodium, total nitrogen and total dissolved phosphorous. The data are collected by dip samples at ECN's terrestrial sites (where there is a stream present) using a standard protocol. They represent continuous weekly records from 1992 to 201

Useful for

Use cases llm-inferred
Baseline stream chemistry (pH, nitrate, phosphate, sulphate) for water quality context in rural or upland EIA and catchment baselines near the ECN sites · Long-term background water quality trend analysis (1992-2015) for diffuse pollution or WFD-related assessments at the listed sites · Historical nutrient and acidity reference data for validating catchment water chemistry models in comparable UK catchments
Audience llm-inferred
hydrologists · water quality scientists · ecologists · environmental consultants

Limitations

Constraints llm-inferred
Only eight ECN sites, and only where a stream is present; not UK-wide or catchment-wide coverage · Dip samples at weekly intervals, not continuous or event-based monitoring · Historical archive ending in 2015 for this record; not a live feed · Provenance text says 1992 to 2012 while the description and title say 1992 to 2015, so the end date should be checked against the data files · Scripted download requires a personal access token
