Digital Geological Map Data of Great Britain - 25k (DiGMapGB-25) Linear version 2
Linear features (shown as polylines) represent six classes of geological structural features e.g. faults, folds or landforms e.g. buried channels, glacial drainage channels at the ground or bedrock surface (beneath superficial deposits). Limited coverage within Great Britain, data exists for 167 10x10km tiles. Most primary geological mapping was carried out at 1:10 000 scale but in some areas of Wales and Scotland mapping at 1:25 000 was adopted as the norm including areas with complex geology o

What's in it
- Data offered docs-verified
- faults · folds · alteration areas (zones of heat/pressure change around faults and dykes) · fossil horizons (stratigraphic correlation) · landforms at ground or bedrock surface, incl. buried channels and glacial drainage channels, drumlins, eskers, ice margins · mineral veins · rock marker beds, e.g. coal seams, gypsum beds, marine bands
- Coverage docs-verified
- Great Britain, limited: 167 10x10km tiles · 2012 (dataset reference date, not a data-collection span)
- Resolution docs-verified
- Source geological mapping mostly 1:10 000 scale; some Wales and Scotland areas 1:25 000
- Update frequency docs-verified
- Not planned (no scheduled updates)
- Formats docs-verified
- ESRI Shapefile (vector)

Useful for
- Use cases llm-inferred
- Ground investigation scoping: map faults and folds as structural hazards along a linear scheme · Groundwater and drainage risk screening: identify buried channels and glacial drainage channels that may act as preferential pathways · Foundation and cutting design context: use marker beds (coal seams, gypsum beds) to correlate borehole logs
- Audience llm-inferred
- geotechnical engineers · engineering geologists · hydrogeologists · GIS analysts · civils engineers
Limitations
- Constraints llm-inferred
- Limited coverage: only 167 10x10km tiles within Great Britain · Linear features only; not a full geology (polygon bedrock and superficial data are separate) · Name says 25k, but most source mapping was 1:10 000, so detail varies by area · Not updated (update frequency not planned); dataset reference date is 2012 · Licence restrictions: no reproduction without permission; use at customer's own risk; no warranty given · Licence field on the data.gov.uk page reads 'Not set', which conflicts with the BGS licence text · Source description says six feature classes but body text lists seven categories; check before use
